The Mary Hewetson Cottage Hospital provides vital locally based healthcare facilities to Keswick and the surrounding rural areas. In order to improve the in-patient facilities and increase capacity an extension was required.
With the Hospital being located in the Lake District National Park which is also a World Heritage Site, the extension design had to be sensitive to its location, but at the same time provide modern healthcare facilities. The design also had to be sympathetic to the existing Hospital’s design, all of which was achieved by using local materials and respecting the vernacular architecture.
The project value was £600,000 and the works also included internal alterations including a new commercial kitchen facility.
Mellor Architects partnered with mechanical and electrical engineering specialists Pettit Singleton Associates (PSA) to deliver a comprehensive M&E design that seamlessly integrated with the hospital’s existing infrastructure.
