A £785,000 extension and remodelling of the existing Emergency Department to at Royal Lancaster Infirmary to provide increased space for clinical treatment, new IT facilities and new tele-medicine technology.

Important improvements have also been made to provide increased patient privacy and dignity and to improve patient and ambulance flows through the department.

The department entrance is designed to be more welcoming whilst at the same time maintaining security.

The work was of necessity carried out in phases, carefully devised to allow the department to remain fully operational throughout building operations.

The external appearance of the extension was designed to merge seamlessly with the existing building.
